Free trial classes are one of the most effective ways to bring new students into your dance studio. They give families a chance to experience your classes, meet your staff, and see what sets you apart — without any commitment. But here’s the thing: first impressions matter, and how you welcome free trial families can make or break their decision to come back.
Luckily, these two simple tips can help you create a warm, positive first impression that sets you up for success.
Tip #1: A Personalized Welcome Sign
Make your free trial families feel seen and special the second they walk in the door with a cute welcome sign. List out the first names of the dancers with a note that reads something like:
Welcome to [Studio Name]!
[Name]
[Name]
[Name]
Stop by the front desk and we’ll get you checked in for your Free Trial. We can’t wait to dance with you!
This small effort will go a long way in making your Free Trial family feel at ease. Parents will feel like their child is truly welcomed, not just another name on a list. It also encourages them to head to the front desk, where you can begin guiding them through the experience.
Tip #2: Guide them Through the Entire Process
Trying something new can feel nerve-racking and awkward. New students may not know what to do when they arrive and they probably have a lot of questions! The key is to make them feel at ease and answer any questions before they even have to ask.
Train your front desk staff to walk trial families through the entire process:
- Give them a quick studio tour
- Show them where to wait
- Let them know where to put their things
- Point out their child’s classroom and teacher
- Remind them to stop by the front desk after class
This level of care takes away the guesswork and helps families feel confident and excited, not lost and overwhelmed.
Tip #3: Systemize Your Approach
It’s not enough to implement this approach once. Create step by step guide for your front desk staff to follow whenever a Free Trial Booking comes through. Loop in your teachers too so they know to welcome the guests and walk them to the front desk! The real magic happens when this experience becomes repeatable and reliable.
